2 Kings 5: The True Service

The first time I have read this chapter (2 Kings 5), I decided to post a blog about "To see is to believe."

Naaman's story somehow interests me. A soldier who has a leprosy and wants to be healed. However, he was skeptic and needs to be convinced that he can be healed by just obeying a simple instruction.

For several days I keep on reading this chapter and tried to write a blog about "To see is to believe" but failed. Nothing comes to my mind not even any idea or any personal experience that I can share. So I decided to skip this chapter and continue my reading.

For unknown reason (God led me back to this chapter), once again I read this chapter, but this time God revealed to me a message about "THE TRUE SERVICE".

The true service I saw in Elisha, a prophet and the successor of Elijah. 1 Kings 19:16

Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!”
So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.

Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God . He stood before him and said, “Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.”

The prophet answered, “As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing.” And even though Naaman urged him, he refused. - 2 Kings 5:13-16

After I read this verse, it became one of my favorite bible verses. We are called to serve the Lord and by serving the Lord, we serve others. We should not be taking advantage by serving others and tried to justify some of our actions.

Let us be like Elisha, even though Naaman urged him to accept the gift, he refused. It may seems hard because of the desire of the flesh, but nothing is impossible with God.

God bless.. To God Be The Glory!
