Have you already encountered pop-up message with select options "Abort, Retry and Ignore?" while doing something in you PC? If yes, what option did you select? :)
If you're an IT person or just simply a computer user, these options may be common to you already.
This is a computer error message that requires the user to take action by selecting from the three options "Abort, Retry and Ignore". The next process will depend on the user selection option.
Abort. This option will sometimes rollback before terminating the current process. The user knows the error and tries to solve the problem first before rerun the process or simply the user cannot do anything.
Retry. Honestly, for some critical errors, this is just another option that does not (99%) actually work. A false hope.
This is the initial option that the user would choose because he's hoping that he could complete the process. However, eventually, he'll end up choosing either from Abort or Ignore option. :)
Ignore. The user acknowledges the error encountered but ignores it. Among the these three options, this is not the safe. The user allows the error(s) to persist just to complete the process, ignoring the fact this error might cause a bigger problem in the future.
In 1 Samuel 15, Saul was given a task by God to totally destroy all the Amalekites.
1 Samuel said to Saul, "I am the one the LORD sent to anoint you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the LORD. 2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. 3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'" - 1 Samuel 15:1-3
While Saul was in the process of completing his mission, he encountered Kenites. Since Kenites are not part of his task, Saul gave them an opportunity to move away from Amalekites.
6 Then he said to the Kenites, “Go away, leave the Amalekites so that I do not destroy you along with them; for you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites moved away from the Amalekites. - 1 Samuel 15:6
Kenites acknowledged the threat given by Saul. They just stopped and went away, their lives were spared from Amalekite's destruction.
7 Then Saul attacked the Amalekites all the way from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt. 8 He took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and all his people he totally destroyed with the sword. 9 But Saul and the army spared Agag and the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat calves and lambs? everything that was good. These they were unwilling to destroy completely, but everything that was despised and weak they totally destroyed. - 1 Samuel 15:7-9
Even though Saul was victorious, he failed to complete his mission and the worst was he violated the Lord's command. He ignored and didn't carry out Lord's instructions by sparing the life of Agag (King of Amalekite's) and plunder everything which is beneficial to them.
His partial disobedience caused him the removal of his Kingdom (1 Samuel 15:28) and his death (an Amalekite killed him - 2 Samuel 1:1-15).
Saul failed to regain LORD's favor no matter how hard he tries because the LORD already left him:
- 1 Samuel 15:24-26
- 1 Samuel 28:15-19
In a concept of process, 1% is the same as 99.9% because both did not complete process.
Partial obedience is total disobedience. It should be 100% no more, no less and no conditions.
